“Hey pa dey,” or hi to you, from Wausa’s Swedish Smorgasbord Committee.
As this year’s event date draws near, final touches are being made for the delicious feast of Swedish foods.
The committee has been busy making phone calls as it prepares for the 80th edition of Wausa’s Swedish Smorgasbord celebrations in 2023. The event will be held 5-7pm October 28 at the Wausa Auditorium.
Can’t you just taste those homemade Swedish meatballs and potato sausage? And, what about the spicy cold meats, fresh homemade breads, fruit soup and creamy scalloped potatoes?
All of that and much more will fill your plate. Finally, top off your meal with ostakaka or rice pudding, cookies, and a cup of Swedish egg coffee for dessert.
Without stepping out of Nebraska, one can experience the feeling of being transported to Sweden during the special event.
Wausa’s Smorgasbord celebration is an event of which the community can be proud. Not only does it showcase part of Wausa’s rich Swedish heritage, it also affords the residence of the community to work together towards a common goal.
“Syknda pa,” or hurry up, and get your tickets by contacting Doug Johnson at PO Box 179, Wausa NE, 68786; 402-586-2266; or doug.johnson@wausabank.com at Commercial State Bank. All smorgasbord workers need to purchase their tickets at the bank.
For those local residents who are unable to attend Wausa’s Smorgasbord this year, meals may be delivered right to their door.
Copies of the menu may be picked up at the time tickets are purchased.
There also will be a table on the main floor of the Wausa Auditorium to seat guests who are unable to navigate the steps downstairs.
Plates of food will be brought up to them so they also, may have an opportunity to enjoy the smorgasbord delicacies.
The event will be 5-7pm Oct. 28. Anyone with questions should contact Cristi Munter at 402-223-9158 or Joni Burns at 402-360-3107.
